Circular Economy Week #4: Data Sharing Festival

This year, we once again attended the Data Sharing Festival hosted by CoE-DSC. As a solution provider in the DPP-space, it was encouraging to see how the importance of data sharing has continued to gain momentum in recent years.

During the event, we explored how the Digital Product Passport (DPP) has a predecessor in the agricultural sector: the plant passport. The parallels between the two are clear, and the plant passport offers valuable insights as a starting point for developing DPP processes. Richard Ooms initiated an engaging discussion by actively involving the audience and highlighting different perspectives. As a solution provider, we recognised many of the considerations organisations face when deciding how to approach challenges such as data gaps or whether to take a frontrunner position while awaiting further delegated acts. The concern around stranded assets is real, leading many responsible economic operators to proceed with caution. Our role is to provide clarity and confidence—supported not only by our expertise, but also by demonstrating that our platform has a solution for most challenges.

The day concluded with presentations by Laura van den Aarssen and Huib van Nieuwenhuize (CoE-DPP and TNO), who highlighted the evolving role of DPPs within broader ecosystems. Their message was clear: there are strong reasons to act now rather than wait. We also discussed the UN Transparency Protocol, which aims to prevent greenwashing through improved supply chain traceability and transparency—both highly relevant topics in the context of Digital Product Passports.

We left the event inspired and are already looking forward to next year’s edition.
