Event: Reuse in the manufacturing industry

Diving into the proces industry, this event will revolve around the central question: who will take the lead as AI will transform, or even revolutionise the industry? Hosted by ISPT, Cirmar will contribute to breakouts and focus on the connections with DPPs.

Recap of 2025 – what we already did

  • Joint webinar with Cibutex and bAwear
On January 16, 2025, we hosted a joint webinar with Cibutex and bAwear to explore the transition toward more circular and digital practices in B2B textiles. Using a pilot case on circular kitchen towels, we showcased how consistent product design, reverse logistics, and digital product passports like C_passport® can enable truly circular solutions. Cibutex emphasized the unique potential of B2B textiles due to their simplicity, traceability, and centralized usage, while bAwear contributed life cycle analyses to reveal the environmental benefits of material recuperation. The session concluded with a clear message: the tools and partnerships for circular B2B textiles are already here—now it’s time to scale them.

  • Presentation for sustainability managers in manufacturing for Eindhoven area
The manufacturing industry is a key player in the transition to a circular economy. We were invited to present some of the opportunities that circular strategies, products and concepts offer to a group of sustainability managers active in the Eindhoven area on the 19th of January. The Digital Product Passport was on the agenda as well. First and foremost, because this technology will allow manufacturing companies to gain a grip on their materials use and make it easier to organise reverse logistics, take back systems, better design for circularity and many other buttons to push in a circular economy. Additionally, many of these companies will be facing the mandatory EU-DPP over the coming years.
  • Data Sharing Festival the Hague
A Cirmar team attended the Data Sharing Festival on the 5th of February. This gathering of professionals working in data spaces, data sharing and Digital Product Passports was an excellent reminder of the technologies that are already available, and the challenges that lie ahead. Our main conclusions: C_passport®’s setup is ahead of European legislative developments, the biggest challenge for the larger DPP-ecosystem is to generate the necessary data to create DPP’s, and to develop the common language that is needed to efficiently exchange data.
  • Symposium Innovation Cluster Drachten
A group of innovative, ambitious companies in the north of the Netherlands has joined forces to exchange ideas and best practices. We were invited to speak at their symposium on March 12th and discussed the overarching theme behind circularity: material retention. It is an economic rationale that goes beyond avoiding emissions and sustainability. The circular economy presents opportunities, but it is also an absolute necessity if Europe is to secure its position in a competitive, geopolitically unstable world.
  • Partner Day GS1
On March 18th, we attended the partner day organised by GS1 Netherlands. Their code standards have been incorporated in our solution from day one, as we acknowledge the need for universally applicable ‘keys’ to unlock the data exchange potential in DPPs. We discussed with fellow solution providers about the challenges we still face regarding availability and interoperability of data.
  • Webinar with Evofenedex
Evofenedex is a knowledge hub for trade and logistics. We first got in touch with them last year when we hosted an expert group on Digital Product Passports. On the 26th of March, we joined them for a webinar in which we took a deep dive in the data challenges of the Digital Product Passport, and how this will play out for members of their organisation specifically. It was great to connect with this diverse group of companies, that were eager to ask their many questions.
  • Webinar with Product for Product
On the 27th of March, we changed things up a bit for a webinar with Cirmar-user Product for Product. This frontrunner in the circular economy proposed to have a chat about what moves them and how others can follow their example. The result: a webinar in which we didn’t just send information, but discussed the challenges and opportunities of taking steps in the circular economy. We are very thankful for Frans van den Berge’s openness and continued inspiration for circular progress. You can rewatch the full webinar here, unfortunately for our international community, it is only available in Dutch.
  • Webinar: Grow your business by enhancing volume and adding value to recycled content
Together with Radboud University’s Jeroen Jansen, we took a deep-dive into the world of recycled plastics. We shared our analyses of the problem at hand and provided a way forward to increase the applicability and cost-efficiency of recycled plastic content. It involves dedicated characterisation technologies combined with the use of Digital Product Passports.
  • Webinar with EMMA Safety Footwear
One of the first companies that used our solution is EMMA Safety Footwear. Their story is firmly rooted in the Dutch mines, and they are now a prime example of a company attempting to take the next steps towards circularity. They shared their trajectory in a webinar with us, which can be rewatched via this link.
  • CSR-day at Solarge
A frontrunner in the circular economy and user of C_passport® – Solarge, hosted a delegation of companies connected to the dutch organisation for corporate social responsibility (MVO Nederland). We did a tour of their production facilities, Cirmar presented the use case of Digital Product Passports for Solarge and we participated in a workshop inspired by Solarge’s story of sustainable entrepreneurship.
  • Reuse in the manufacturing industry
On September 18th, we took part in this event at Canon Production Printing, organised by Ronduit Circulair. The objective of the day was to find solutions and connections to accelerate reuse in the manufacturing industry. Cirmar presented cases in which our customers have transformed their business model from linear to circular, making use of Digital Product Passports to secure the value and quality of materials.
  • The DPP Festival
It was the first dedicated DPP-event in the Netherlands. Hosted by the newly founded Centre of Excellence – DPP, this day was meant to bring together organisations that work across the DPP system. We spoke with people we already had solid connections with, and expanded our network.
  • National Conference for Broad Prosperity (Nationale Conferentie Brede Welvaart)
We attended this conference which was all about the initiatives that promote prosperity in the broadest possible sense. That includes circular economy initiatives, as well as true pricing. We connected with like-minded companies and found inspiration from examples in building and construction, finance and policy. A great way to expand our view of the societal changes needed to accelerate not just the transition to a circular economy, but a fair and flourishing society for all.
  • Dutch Design Week
Every October, Eindhoven is the decor of the Dutch Design Week. We attended the exhibitions together with the [Re]Value consortium, and were pleasantly surprised by the amount of work that was dedicated to the circular economy and sustainable materials. We focused on the textiles examples, but interacted with various other exhibitors in furniture, infrastructure and building as well. Design is an integral part of circular products, and even though we will always advocate for more focus on circular economy principles, there is already a lot happening!
  • Webinar with COAST and Veridis
The COAST community of practice regularly organises webinars to share knowledge and inspire others to take action as well. In the webinar we hosted on the 23rd of October, Veridis’ Madscan technology took center stage. Their in-line technology makes material recognition highly efficient. Technologies like these are essential to not just help us understand the materials we are using and recovering, but to be able to add more information value to materials as well. That in turn transforms them to more valuable commodities, which we can use to fuel the circular economy.
  • A+A Trade Fair in Düsseldorf
A Cirmar delegation attended the largest trade fair in Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). Several of our partners, including GAIA Circulair and Rütex, were displaying products here, accompanied by C_passport®. Circularity and sustainability were unfortunately a background theme at this year’s fair, but we still managed to have some meaningful conversations and learn about developments in materials used.
  • Spinning Jenny factory visit
As we work together with Spinning Jenny in various projects ([Re]Value and Workwear Trousers on a Circular Mission), it was important to have a closed look at their processes and learn from the groundbreaking work they’re doing. Their largely automated processes are currently not even running at full speed, but already capable of producing a wide range of yarns.
  • International Textiles Event Aachen
Frans presented on behalf of Cirmar at the ITE, where the international textiles community gathers to discuss relevant topics, including circularity. Our contribution was mainly focused on motivating the textiles industry to take charge of circularity. With some great examples among our client base, we managed to inspire organisations that have various roles in the textiles supply cycle to take the first step.
